A Step Back in Time-The Garden Island of Sark; Part One

Our first full morning of our voyage dawned dull and dreary. A disappointment to be sure, but we still set off in high spirts. First we took a tender from the ship to St. Peter's Port, and from there we got on an even small boat for our 45-minute ride to the Island of Sark.

Sark is a land unlike any other. For one, it's an actual feudal state, ruled by a Seigneur. There is no motorized traffic, with the exception of tractors. The main means of transportation are horse drawn carriage, bicycle, or foot. Roads are packed dirt, directional sign posts give distances in the minutes it takes to walk rather than miles.

After walking to a local bicycle shop to rent a pair, we were given a map, and free time to explore. It had been years since either one of us had been on a bike, but you really don't forget!
